Dr. Scott Coupland joined RTS-Orlando in 1999 and currently serves as an Professor of Counseling and the Academic Director of the M.A. in Counseling degree program. He teaches several core counseling courses, including Marriage and Family Therapy, Couples Counseling and Psychopathology. Dr. Coupland also regularly teaches courses related to pastoral counseling for Doctor of Ministry students and occasionally supervises counseling-oriented Doctor of Ministry dissertations.
Dr. Coupland's doctoral studies focused on marriage and family therapy. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist and an approved clinical supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Coupland maintains an active private counseling practice and has served as assessment consultant for the Florida Church Planters Assessment Center. He has prior clinical experience in medical school, hospital, university and church settings.
Dr. Coupland is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Counseling Association, the American Association of Christian Counselors and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. He has also served on the board of Renewing Hearts, a not-for-profit ministry commitment to making therapy and other resources available to the disadvantaged and disenfranchised.
Students appreciate Dr. Coupland's sincere care for them and his expertise in counseling married couples. Dr. Coupland and his wife, Joan, have two daughters: Brynne and Cami. He is an avid scuba diver and aquarium enthusiast. Prior to pursuing a career in counseling, Dr. Coupland spent a number of years as a cowboy and a restaurant manager.
